# Fixed meal break policy

How the fixed meal break policy works and how it is configured.

In this topic, you'll learn how to configure a fixed meal break policy. If you activate a fixed meal policy, a fixed meal break duration is subtracted from the employee [timelog](https://docs.mobiclocks.com/docs/timelogs). For example, if the employee has logged 5 hours of work, and the break duration is set to 1 hour, the break duration is subtracted from the employee's logged hours, resulting in 4 logged hours.

The fixed meal break policy is configured under **Administration (<i class="fa fa-gear" />) > Settings > Meal & Rest Break**. The following settings are available:

* **Duration**. The duration of the break.
* **Minimum timelog duration**. The minimum timelog duration required for the break policy to be applied.
* **Default for all newly created job sites**. If this checkbox is selected, the configured break settings are only applied to newly created job sites, not affecting existing job sites.

## Auto-apply when working across multiple job sites

When an employee works across multiple job sites in a single day, and auto-apply is enabled, the system evaluates the **Minimum timelog duration** setting against the employee's total daily worked time across all job sites, rather than against each timelog individually. Worked time is calculated using the same method described in [Daily worked time](https://docs.mobiclocks.com/docs/trackable-meal-policy#policy-resolution#daily-worked-time).

If the employee's job sites have different fixed meal break settings, the settings of the first job site where the employee punched in for that day apply.
